1. How do I know if a booth is an actual OEM factory?

Finding true OEM factories requires piercing through marketing talk. At the Canton Fair, every trading company will swear they are an OEM factory.

A true OEM factory will have engineers in the booth who can instantly answer these questions. A trading company will deflect and say, 'I will check with our production manager and email you.'

2. Why are MOQs higher for OEM products?

Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs) for OEM are massive because the factory must literally shut down their assembly lines, recalibrate their robotics, and install the specific steel molds required to shape your unique product.

6. Is ODM (Private Labeling) safer than OEM?

This clause states that once your cumulative orders reach a certain volume (e.g., 50,000 units over two years), the factory will refund the initial $5,000 mold fee by deducting it from your next invoice. This proves you are a serious, long-term partner and aligns both your incentives.

8. How long does OEM prototyping take?

Do not expect rapid results. Creating a true OEM product from scratch is a painfully slow process. After you pay the tooling fee, it usually takes the factory 30 to 45 days just to cut the steel molds.

They will then shoot a 'T1' (Test 1) sample and mail it to India. It will almost certainly have flaws. You will request modifications, they will adjust the mold, and shoot a T2 sample. This iterative prototyping phase often takes 3 to 6 months before mass production can begin.

9. Do I need to provide CAD files to the factory?

Yes. A Chinese factory is not an industrial design studio; they are a production facility. You cannot walk into a Canton Fair booth with a rough sketch on a napkin and ask them to build it.

You must hire professional engineers in India to create highly detailed 3D CAD files (STEP or IGES format) and a comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM). The more precise your blueprints, the less room the factory has to make assumptions or cut corners.

10. Should I visit the factory before paying the mold fee?

You must sign and date the physical Golden Sample, and the factory manager must do the same. One copy stays in India, and one copy stays with the factory's quality control manager.
